This is the final project I use in my course on hip hop. It is designed to to give students the opportunity to employ the critical analysis skills we work on throughout the semester, and to apply it to a pop culture artifact that they find compelling. For this assignment, students are focused on race, gender, and sexuality as lenses of analysis in hip hop culture, but it could easily be tweaked to focus on other modes of analysis as well as other forms of media.
Project adapted from “Feminist Remix” created by Kate Livingston.
Do you provide any kind of production-related training for the students who want to do those versions of the assignment?
